Airsoft is a militaristic combat sport involving gas or electric powered nonlethal guns. Unlike paintball there is no Paint mess and these guns actually look real! Sound like a good time? A brief history of Airsoft

Airsoft guns began being produced in Japan in the early 1970's where real firearms were illegal at the time. These highly detailed replica's of real firearms fired non-lethal plastic pellets better known as BBs. They quickly became popular and began being mass produced, by the 1980’s Airsoft was an established past time in Japan. By the 90's Airsoft had spread to more of the world and was on its way to become to established sport we know it as today. While it is not a widely known as Paintball, it is gaining popularity due to its realistic weaponry and combat styles. Airsoft is even used among some police departments and military for combat training.

Paintball vs. Airsoft

• While one may think they are very similar sports, they actually have little in common.

•  A paintball gun looks completely different and can easily be told from a real firearm while airsoft guns are replicas of real guns with modifications to shoot without being lethal.

• Paintballs are much larger at .68 caliber while the BBs used for Airsoft are 6mm or 8mm.

• BBs are not filled with paint therefore they leave no mess on your clothing but also mean that you have to call out when you have been hit, adding an honor system to the game.

• Airsoft tends to be less costly than paintball overall.(this all depends on the quality of the guns and gear you are purchasing)

• Overall Airsoft is played with a more militaristic combat style.
